Employability Services

Barbers and potters are typical types of businesses run by sole traders.ru Self-employment can be a great way to start working for yourself.

Unemployment to Self-Employment

Skills Development Scotland - SDS - is the government body that works with learning and skills organisations to strengthen Scotland’s sustainable, economic development.

BDA provides 'Employability Fund for Self-Employment' on behalf of SDS, helping people to move from unemployment into self-employment.  Through the Employability Fund, and its predecessor Training for Work, BDA has partnered with SDS to help many clients build successful careers working for themselves.

The Employability Fund is delivered in partnership with local Jobcentre Plus offices who refer job-seekers to our tailored training programmes.  Trainees meet with their own, named Business Adviser and are given help and advice, plus they attend our online webinars and group training sessions, whilst still receiving benefits.

BDA has partnered with DWP and Jobcentre Plus on employability programmes, including those from SDS, since 2003.  Access to all of our support for unemployed people is via the local Jobcentre Plus Advisers who assess the suitability and eligibility for each individual.

To find out more about Employability Fund visit the Skills Development Scotland website or contact your local Jobcentre.
